Update Release Date: 14/08/2016
In july 2016, we launch the RELEASE 1 of piRNAdb system. Providing new and improved features to offer a better search and retrieve information experience about piRNAs. In the launch moment we got 27 239 RNA sequences that are classified as piRNAs. These data are downloaded from 4 datasets published by the researchers that discover the first piRNAs.
We aligned these sequences to the Human Genome builds HG19 and HG38 and we got about to 1 600 000 perfects alignments and without gaps.
Still using these alignment data, we identified a little bit more than 16 000 genes that are considered tartget to these piRNAs. About clusters, that have fundamental role in the origin of these RNAs, we detected a number around of 900 000 of these formations.
In conclusion of this short first update and release note of our database system, we believe that in a near future we become a reference database in studies about these piRNAs molecules, that are so different and without a wide scale study.
